Quick Counting II
This Monday, December 16th, I went to the Kiddie Academy in Lewisville, Texas and reviewed basic financial literacy with 2 classes of 15 students. Last class, we reviewed the basics of counting money, specifically the amount and some shortcuts to make counting easier. This time, I used more coins such as the half-dollar and dollar coins as well as harder arithmetics to accurately portray how it will be in the real world. Firstly, I divided the class into groups of 3, and then I asked them count the bag as quickly as possible in order to win some stickers. At the end of class, we did a couple group practice to show, those lacking in the concept, how the through process should works with complex arithmetic using coins. Lastly, I rewarded the winning trio with stickers as well as any others who participated in the conversation by answering questions.
