Quick Counting III
This Monday, January 27th, I went to the Kiddie Academy in Lewisville, Texas, and reviewed basic financial literacy with two classes of 15 students. Last class, we reviewed the basics of counting money, focusing on recognizing amounts and using shortcuts to make counting easier. This time, I incorporated more complex concepts by introducing additional coins, such as the half-dollar and dollar coins, and integrating harder arithmetic to reflect real-world scenarios. Firstly, I divided the class into groups of three and challenged them to count a bag of mixed coins as quickly as possible to win stickers. At the end of class, we worked through a few group practice problems to help those struggling with the concept and demonstrate the correct thought process for solving complex arithmetic using coins. Lastly, I rewarded the winning trio with stickers, as well as other students who participated by answering questions.
